There’s a Monster in my Fridge by Caryl Hart was amongst a few new books I bought for our school library. Initially I was attracted to the cover of the book. it’s bright and vibrant and the monsters don’t look too scary.
I took this book along with 2 others into the year 2 class (6-7 year olds). I showed them the covers of the books and allowed them to vote which one they would like to hear first; they chose this one!
The children loved it! It has various scary characters doing really silly things. Each split page is full of fantastic illustrations with lots going on. The children were giggling and laughing in delight (there’s no better response to a picture book). They especially liked the ‘vampire in his underwear’ page and asked for this page over and over again.
The children are delighted I have now placed it in our library with a huge sticker on it saying ‘Recommended by year 2’. I’m sure it will be really popular.
