Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf – Catherine Storr

Waterstones bookshop are promoting this book throughout their shops.  As a result it is predicted as being the surprise hit of the summer.

I must admit it was a book I had never read.  I have read other Catherine Storr books; Marianne Dreams and the Mirror Image Ghost, both of which are in my dare to read basket in the library, but haven’t come across this one before.

Surprise hit of the summer!
Surprise hit of the summer!

I was can see why it is so popular.  The wolf tries many disguises to capture and eat Polly but to no avail, Polly manages to outwit the wolf every time.  Children will love the humour in the stories and will recognise the similarities to well known fairy tales.  It will appeal to young early readers but I think works really well as a read aloud.
