Darkmouth – Shane Hegarty

This is an outstanding read…fast paced, exhilarating, funny, exciting; the list is endless but most importantly just what a children’s book should be.

The first in a series, Darkmouth introduces us to an ordinary town which is the only remaining portal for ‘Legends'(monsters).

Finn is the youngest in a generation of Legend Hunters which have defended the town for centuries against magical myths and creatures.  Unfortunately, Finn is not only reluctant to be a Legend Hunter but isn’t convinced he is any good for the job.  A wonderful adventure with plenty of twists and turns.  The illustrations bring the story and the ‘Legends’ to life!  I can’t wait for the next one, out in August 2015.

I would recommend this for 9 year olds upwards and I can’t wait to introduce it to our library.

It will be in such demand, after I’ve raved about it, that I will issue it as a ‘read me raffle’: those who want to read it put their name in the raffle to be the first to read it!

    1. I do this whenever we get a new Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Tom Gates, just to make it fair so the junior librarians don’t always get first pick at the new books. It does create a buzz as the excitement builds up to the draw date.
